Barnsley Council has approved a revised £7.37 million investment to create 40 specialist primary-school places for children with complex special educational needs and disabilities.
The project will see The Mill, in Worsbrough Bridge, refurbished and adapted. Plans include 40 specialist places, accessibility improvements, major refurbishment, and a new roof and other essential works.
Interim provision will operate at Kings Oak while The Mill is developed. The aim is for children to begin learning at the permanent site from September 2028.
The council says creating more places locally should reduce the number of Barnsley children needing to travel outside the borough for specialist education.
The Cabinet decision is currently subject to the council’s normal call-in process.
