Terms

Terms of use

The rules for using Sheffield Essentials, the other Essentials town sites, Radio Essentials and Sheffield Podcast. They are written plainly on purpose.

Agreeing to these terms

By using our sites you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the sites. We can change these terms; the date at the top of this page shows when they last changed, and carrying on using the site means the new version applies.

Who we are

The sites are run by Essentials Media Ltd, registered in England and Wales under company number 14510993. Our contact details are in the contact page.

Using the sites

  • You may read, share and print our content for your own personal, non-commercial use. The share buttons on every story are there to be used.
  • You may quote a short extract with a clear credit and a link back to the original page. Anything beyond that — republishing whole stories, copying our photographs or our layout, scraping our pages in bulk — needs our written permission.
  • Do not use the sites to send spam or malware, to try to break into the staff or business areas, or to post anything unlawful, hateful or aimed at harassing a particular person.
  • Do not submit a false event, a false listing, or someone else’s details.

When you send us something

  • You confirm it is true, that you have the right to send it, and that you have permission to use any photograph you attach.
  • You give us permission to publish it, edit it, shorten it, write a headline for it, and share it across our own channels — and to keep it up afterwards so the record stays accurate. We are not the owner of your material and we do not claim to be.
  • We can publish, hold back, move, edit or remove anything at our discretion, including after it has gone live. We will not always be able to give a reason.
  • Please do not send us other people’s personal details — home addresses, phone numbers, children’s schools — unless you have a good reason and it is fair to do so.

Events and listings

We check event and listing details before publishing, but we are not the organiser, the venue or the seller. Dates, times, prices and availability can change after we publish, so check with the venue or organiser before you travel or buy. Anything you book or buy through a link is a arrangement between you and that organiser, not us.

Business directory

Listing details come from the business itself, from the owner’s own website, or from what we have been able to verify. Businesses are responsible for the accuracy of their own pages. Once a claim is approved the owner can edit their description, contact details, social links, opening hours and photographs. We can hide, lock or remove a listing where it is misleading, no longer trading, or being abused.

Our content and its limits

  • Our news, sport, travel and weather coverage is general information for local readers. It is not legal, financial, medical or professional advice, and traffic and weather information is a snapshot that can change quickly.
  • We aim for accuracy and we correct mistakes — see the editorial standards page.
  • We do not guarantee the sites will be available at all times. They can go down for maintenance, or because of a fault with a service we rely on.

Radio and podcasts

Streams and podcasts are provided as they are. Programme schedules, presenters and playlists can change without notice, and a stream can drop out. What you hear in a bulletin — including road conditions and weather — is a moment in time, not a guarantee.

Links to other websites

We link to council pages, hospitals, venues, ticket sellers and other organisations because they are useful to readers. We do not control those sites, we are not responsible for what they contain or how they handle your details, and a link is not an endorsement.

Responsibility

We take reasonable care with the sites and the information on them. To the fullest extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss of data, loss of profit, or other indirect or business loss arising from use of the sites. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited.

Complaints and removals

Corrections, complaints and requests to remove personal details are handled through the editorial standards page, and your data rights are set out in the privacy notice.

The law that applies

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and any dispute will be dealt with by the courts there. If part of these terms is ever found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply.
