Sheffield Steelers staged a third-period comeback to beat Guildford Flames 4-3 after penalty shots at Utilita Arena Sheffield.
Aaron Fox’s side trailed 2-0 after 40 minutes before goals from Tim Gettinger and Brandon Whistle brought Sheffield level. Guildford restored their lead, but Olivier Archambault made it 3-3 to force overtime.
Neither side scored in overtime, taking the game to a shootout. Adam Rockwood converted twice for Sheffield, including the decisive sudden-death attempt, while Matt Greenfield made a crucial save.
The result gave the Steelers the extra Challenge Cup point and provided an immediate response to their 3-2 defeat at Nottingham Panthers the previous evening.
