Rotherham councillors are scrutinising plans for a new borough-wide approach to street trading. The proposals are being considered by the Overview and Scrutiny Management Board ahead of a Cabinet meeting on Monday 12 October.
Cabinet is being asked to approve public consultation on whether Rotherham Council should adopt powers under Schedule 4 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982. It is also being asked to approve consultation on a draft Street Trading Policy.
A formal policy could eventually affect food traders, market-style stalls, event-related street traders, town-centre trading and other locations across the borough.
A final borough-wide policy is not being adopted today. If consultation is approved, residents, businesses and other stakeholders would get the chance to have their say before final recommendations return to Cabinet.
