A Sheffield man has been handed an extended 20-year sentence after admitting attempting to rape a woman in her 70s in Concord Park.
South Yorkshire Police says Ali Askre, 25, attacked the woman as she walked through the park in March.
The woman suffered serious injuries but fought him off and was able to give police crucial information which helped officers identify him. Askre was arrested within four hours.
Police say he later admitted having planned to attack and rape a woman. He pleaded guilty to attempted rape and causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was sentenced on Monday to 12 years in custody plus eight years on extended licence.
Police have praised the victim's courage throughout the investigation and court process.
