Sheffield City Council has published a citywide plan setting out how Sheffield’s energy system could change over the coming years.
The Local Area Energy Plan covers homes, businesses, transport, industry, renewable power and the electricity network. Priorities include improving energy efficiency, developing heat networks, installing solar panels on suitable public buildings and expanding electric vehicle charging.
The council says around 14.3% of Sheffield households are estimated to be in fuel poverty, while carbon emissions in the city fell by about 52% between 2005 and 2023.
Officials stress that the plan is a strategic evidence base rather than a list of confirmed schemes. Individual projects will still require further development, business cases and funding.
