A five-week family programme is running at First Start Family Hub on Firth Park Road in Sheffield, from Friday 13 November to Friday 11 December 2026, with sessions from 9.30am to 11.30am.

The sessions are delivered by the council's friendly early years team and are described as informative and relaxed, with a different theme explored each week.

Week 1 looks at understanding what helps us to be healthy, ideas that help children grow and learn, and becoming a food label detective. Week 2 covers why developing consistent routines helps create confident parenting styles and how this relates to positive children's behaviours.

Week 3 explores where our eating habits start, understanding and avoiding food fussiness, plus weaning, portion sizes and creating relaxed mealtimes. Week 4 looks at understanding children's behaviours, why empathy and using guided choices helps, and why our own wellbeing matters.

Week 5 covers how family activity benefits more than just our bodies, ideas to help children enjoy brushing their teeth, and finding out how much sugar is in our snacks.

The programme discusses these topics and lots more, thinking about children's overall development throughout. Places can be reserved through the council's sign-up form, and anyone who has booked can cancel their place using the email address they used to book.

The hub is at First Start Family Hub, 441 Firth Park Road, Sheffield, S5 6QQ.
