Sheffield City Council is running its Start Well Family Programme at Lowedges Community Centre on Greasley Road in Lowedges, Sheffield, S8 7HL. Sessions run on Wednesdays from 12.30pm to 2.30pm, from Wednesday 11 November to Wednesday 16 December.
The council says the sessions are informative and relaxed, delivered by its friendly early years team, and explore a different area each week.
Week 1 looks at understanding what helps us to be healthy, ideas that help our children grow and learn, and becoming a food label detective. Week 2 covers why developing consistent routines helps create confident parenting styles and how this relates to positive children's behaviours.
In Week 3, the programme looks at where our eating habits start, understanding and avoiding food fussiness, plus weaning, portion sizes and creating relaxed mealtimes. Week 4 explores understanding children's behaviours, why empathy and using guided choices helps, and why our own wellbeing matters.
Week 5 looks at how family activity benefits more than just our bodies, with ideas to help children enjoy brushing teeth and to find out how much sugar is in our snacks.
The council says the programme discusses these topics and covers lots more, thinking about children's overall development throughout. Places can be reserved through the council's sign-up form, and anyone who has booked can cancel their place using the email address they used to book.
