We have released CCTV images of a person we would like to speak to following two reported hate crime incidents at an Islamic Centre in Sheffield.
It is reported that around 2am on Wednesday 3 September, a person threw a defaced Quran into the grounds of Wybourn Islamic Centre. An investigation into this offence was subsequently then launched.
Then, more recently on Sunday 25 October, a person approached the gates of the centre and placed a Quran containing graffitied hateful material in the grounds of the premises.
We will not tolerate hate crime offences in South Yorkshire and an investigation has now also been launched into the most recent offence last Sunday.
Following numerous enquiries, we are now releasing a CCTV image of a person we would like to speak to as we believe they may be able to help us with our investigations into these offences. They are pictured wearing all black clothing, believed to be of a slim build, and around 5ft 9ins tall.
We know that these images are not as clear as we would like, but we believe they may be able to jog someone's memory if they were in the area at the time of the incident.
Do you recognise the person in these images? If you can help, you can pass information to us online or by calling 101. Please quote the investigation number 14/187757/26 when you get in touch.
Alternatively, if you prefer not to give your personal details, you can stay anonymous and pass on what you know by contacting the independent charity Crimestoppers. Call their UK Contact Centre on freephone 0800 555 111 or complete a simple and secure anonymous online form on the Crimestoppers website.
