South Yorkshire Police say they see an increase in calls into their control room over the Halloween and Bonfire Night period, covering fires, nuisances, animals, anti-social behaviour and a range of other offences.
The force says it is a busy time for officers and call handlers, and is urging people to make the right call, to the right service.
Police ask people to contact them about anti-social behaviour, misuse of fireworks and criminal damage. Fire and Rescue should be called about dangerous and concerning bonfires, property and objects on fire, and unsafe structures.
The local council is the service to contact about noise complaints, barking dogs, waste and fly tipping.
The force adds that if an emergency is taking place and there is a threat to life, people should call 999.
