The determination of two sharp-eyed response officers in Sheffield has led to the recovery of a gun and a man being jailed.
On Monday 14 September, officers on mobile patrol in Staniforth Road sighted a Land Rover Defender travelling at speed. A short pursuit commenced before the driver of the vehicle decamped on Olivers Drive and fled down a nearby alleyway.
Determined to not let the driver get away, officers managed to catch up to him on foot and detained Zohaib Hussain.
Having seen Hussain disappear into a bush prior to catching up to him, one of the officers searched the shrubbery and found a black bag containing a firearm which was loaded with three live rounds of ammunition.
The 30-year-old was arrested and subsequently charged with possessing a firearm and possessing ammunition for a firearm without a certificate.
Hussain, of Huntsman Road, Sheffield, pleaded guilty to both charges and appeared at Sheffield Crown Court on Tuesday (27 October) where he was jailed for five years.
