Over 360 guests from Sheffield’s business community came together for the annual Sheffield Sporting Lunch, which took place at Sheffield City Hall, on 2 October, to raise funds for two inspirational local charities.
Organised by Sheffield’s leading multi-disciplinary property and construction consultancy, EDGE, the event returned after a successful debut last year, bringing together sport, community and charitable giving.
Hosted by comedian Gary Marshall, the event welcomed special guests Harry Redknapp, renowned English former football manager, and Mark Crossley, former Nottingham Forest goalkeeper, famously the only player to save a penalty from former England and Southampton midfielder Matt Le Tissier, as they shared laughs and sporting insights.
More than £47,000 was raised for charity during the event, adding to EDGE’s tenth anniversary fundraising programme that will support a number of worthy causes this year.
Nick Phelan, Director at EDGE, said: "As EDGE celebrates its tenth anniversary, we’re proud to have organised the Sheffield Sporting Lunch for the second year. Back bigger and better than last year, it was a fitting reminder of the importance of community, collaboration and giving back
“Seeing businesses come together to raise funds for a range of fantastic charities has been hugely rewarding. And we’re proud to play a role in supporting organisations that create opportunities and improve lives across Sheffield and further afield.”
EDGE has marked its tenth anniversary milestone by bringing colleagues together through a series of fundraising events throughout the year, including its Quiz Night, Football Tournaments, EDGEVenture scavenger hunt, a skydive and now the Sheffield Sporting Lunch.
These activities have provided opportunities for its 160+ colleagues to connect outside the workplace while supporting several charities that make a meaningful difference within the communities in which it works.
The funds raised will be shared between the company’s chosen charities for the year, including Fuse Alternative Provision and Net4All. Both organisations attended the Sporting Lunch and regularly benefit from ongoing support from EDGE’s Sheffield office.
Each charity works tirelessly to support children and young people in Sheffield’s local communities, providing education and mentorship through sport, to empower the next generation to thrive.
Marie Hadfield, Marketing & Communications Manager at EDGE, said: “The second Sheffield Sporting Lunch has been a real success. It’s been fantastic to see so many people come together, make a positive difference in the community and raise money for EDGE’s chosen charities.
“An extra thank you must also go to John Green, who played an integral role in securing our guest speakers and running the memorabilia auction and set sale, which helped raise even more for our charity pot.”
